Gameday Open Thread: JMU vs. Stony Brook

It’s family weekend at JMU and Stony Brook is in town to play the Dukes. It’s a classic match-up of a top offense (good guys) against a stout defense (bad guys). A little rain never hurt anyone, so make yourself a Bloody Mary, grab your parents, put on a poncho and get ready to root. If you’re unable to make it to Bridgeforth, the game will be broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet and streamed via Madizone. Consider this your official open thread for all of your pre-game, in-game, and post-game chatter. Go Dukes! Keep Rootin’!

I’ve been trying to rally the troops for the last couple days and get some of my fellow students into the stands. Personally, I’m MORE excited for this game because of the rain. There are some of us that are passionate about our team. You’ll see us there today.

If you’re watching on CAA TV, I’m petty sure Billy Mays is doing the color commentary.

Dude from Comcast get paid by the word?

I’m happy to be be watching the Dukes on TV in NOVA so I’m not complaining….. But…. Announcer already referred to us as William and Mary once, and they forgot how to work the cameras on that long SB kickoff return. Dukes are looking good in the rain though, and 2004 Duke has me laughing out loud… Spot on about Billy Mays. Go Dukes!

2 missed fg’s, fumble, horrible tackling, and bonehead penalties…a horrible half…. yet still up 28-7. Gonna be a good season.

“JMU leads 28-7 and in all honesty, if it wasn’t for two missed James Madison field goals, this game would be 34-7.” Thank you for your honesty CSN announcer.

Stands looked like a game in the Alex Wood era. Kinda missed it.

Quiet crowd (understandably), crappy weather, but good coaching didn’t let ESPN or lots of pats on the back get this team off track. I feel like the last few years I’ve had to look at the last half of the year and say “we just need to win at least 2 here to get a playoff look” and I don’t think we’ll have to worry this year. On to a bad looking Towson team next week! First 5-0 start in program history!

I’ve gotta say I was pleasantly surprised that the crowd was as big as it was all things considered. I was afraid it would be me and 100 other people. I definitely should have worn one more layer. Cold out there

Also pissed that they called that last TD back (on a really late call btw) because otherwise I would have predicted the exact score.

It was a win. Pedestrian, fairly undisciplined, but a win.

    Loved Reynolds and Steele.

No targeting on the hit on Ravenel near the end of the 1st half? Hit a defenseless player above the shoulders…

    On to Balmer!

  12. DLS / Oct 4 2015

Ken, not “targeting” Because he had already caught the ball and established himself as a runner. The hit was unfortunate, but not technically a penalty.

  13. Ken / Oct 4 2015

@ DLS: go back and revew the targeting call against Marlowe in last year’s Richmond game when the receiver had already turned up field and taken 2 or more steps before getting hit.

My point is that Ravenel was a defenseless player and the SB guy teed off on him. If not targeting, then unnecessary roughness/personal foul.

More subjective officiating judgment by Clown Car Officials Inc.

  14. 2004 Duke / Oct 5 2015

@Ken- The targeting call against Marlowe last year @Ticks was laughably ridiculous

  15. Ken / Oct 8 2015

@2004 Duke: look up ridiculous in the dictionary and you find a picture of a CAA official…

I just watched that game again on the DVR (can’t enough of squashing ticks — they were much more tolerable in the late 70s when they were going winless under Jim Tait) and still got pissed off about the Marlowe call!
