Gameday Open Thread: JMU @ Delaware

Man that felt good! Thanks Brady and company!

Man that felt good! Thanks Brady and company!

So happy we’re going to be able to add some sweet sweet revenge on the Ticks in the men’s hoops’ opener tonight into Sunday’s Good, Bad, and Ugly but here’s the open thread for what we all hope will be the Dukes’ magic win #8 tomorrow. We’ll be a bit out of touch today (Todd’s hosting watch party and Rob’s traveling this weekend) but will catch up with you all late night!

The basketball game was really good last night with several lead changes and active defense on both sides. Richmond relies on their star player, Terry Allen #15, for scoring in tough situations. He will likely win POY for A10 league. JMU was able to spread the ball and scoring responsibility around which kept Tick’s defense honest, and it allowed lots of good looks at 3 pointers. We shot very high percentage for the night, too. There were typical early-season errors and communication problems, but the Dukes hustled to loose balls throughout the game. Great WIN to begin season! Go Dukes!

Great basketball game last night. I enjoyed that the Dukes spoiled an evening in which the court was named after Dick “Dick” Tarrant. That’s a great arena and really glaringly showed the difference between a modernized facility and a dump like the convo. JMU needs to shut up about finding donors and just get the thing done.

Regarding the team, I really liked the way the team played together, the full court defense, Brady’s use of the bench, the inside toughness, Kent becoming a player who goes to the basket, Vodanovich showing an outside shooting touch, and the skills of newcomer Shakir Brown. If Dalembert can come back in a timely manner this could be a very good team come CAA time. Go Dukes!

Any day that starts off with news of us beating the Ticks is a good day. Shakir looks like a beast and Ron Curry is a smooth operator. 48% from downtown? Is this really us?

New Withers coaching strategy: the defense is so bad – keep them off the field by allowing other team to score.

  5. Delvin / Nov 14 2015

    Unwatchable

  6. The Fly / Nov 14 2015

At halftime, I am not feeling great about how we’re coming off the break.

  7. Shadow / Nov 14 2015

Wow. What a really great job of using the bye week to prepare for a MUST WIN game against a weaker opponent.

3 straight losses does NOT punch your ticket to the playoffs.

    TRASH the white helmets!!!

  8. Bhagavan / Nov 14 2015

Bye week totally unhelpful, still same special teams mistakes, poor run defense, and now a special added wrinkle of no passing game. Get rid of those damn helmets!

  9. Shadow / Nov 14 2015

Getting outplayed and out-coached by 3-6 Delaware.
    This is ALL on Withers.

  10. JMUDRU / Nov 14 2015

Pull your heads out of you-know-where Dukes

  11. Bridgewater duke / Nov 14 2015

We just can’t stop anyone. Even when we know exactly what they are going to do.

  12. Charles F. Sweet / Nov 14 2015

Lame. I’ll be finding something else to do next Saturday.

  13. Shadow / Nov 14 2015

We can’t score touchdowns anymore. WE’RE DONE.

  14. Shrowder / Nov 14 2015

We’re just not a very good team right now, and that sucks

  15. Shadow / Nov 14 2015

    Anybody STILL thinking playoffs???

  16. '83 Duke / Nov 14 2015

Worst news is that this is basically a preview of 2016.

  18. Bhagavan / Nov 14 2015

Has anyone on the coaching staff ever heard of a screen pass? Perfect call to negate that pass rush.

  19. Shadow / Nov 14 2015

    HOLY FLIP-FLAPPIN SHIZNIT!!!!

  20. Bridgewater duke / Nov 14 2015

I don’t freaking believe it. Way to go white helmets!!!!!

  21. The Fly / Nov 14 2015

Look. This is clearly not the same team without VL2. But you have GOT to give massive props to the soph. He hangs on to the ball too long, and he definitely got dem happy feet, but what a cool final drive for the teenager. He’ll be fine. Brandon made a play on the TD catch, too.

    That defense, tho.

  22. Devon / Nov 14 2015

Delaware played up today, this is a team that has beaten some good teams this year (ask Bill & Mary). Defense made some stops and forced some key turnovers, especially during crunch time. Good win, proved we don’t need to score 50 points every week to win. We didn’t play our best, but 8-2 is 8-2. For the people that say they won’t be there next week based on today, we don’t want you there. JMU deserves better fans than you.

I don’t care how bad of a win that was… All it means is the dukes have another 6 days to get better!

  24. jmuparent / Nov 14 2015

Better than the “wing and a prayer” win we just got … is the news that Villanova knocked off Richmond!

Karma ! Gotta love it !

  25. Xerk / Nov 14 2015

Sure, now that they ended up winning it’s easy to put lipstick on a pig. This is a very middle of the pack team in the CAA right now who pulled out a gutsy win in the end. Nothing special to see here.

  26. Drake / Nov 14 2015

Some of yall are seriously bi polar fans. Take a deep breath and keep your mouth shut. If you don’t want to watch next week, please don’t. A win is a win, and you move on. Bring on Villanova.

  27. Tidewater's Duke / Nov 14 2015

Winning that game is like picking up the last girl in the bar and she turns out to be Samantha Ponder.

  28. Duke117 / Nov 15 2015

Reminder that Delaware has been sneaky this year and beaten some good teams. They played up to us tonight. Good poise by Schor in the final drive and D made some plays when they had to. Every team has to pull out wins like this in a season. Keep rootin’ and go Dukes!

  29. ShadyP / Nov 16 2015

Some of y’all need to relax a bit…..some of you are just as bi-polar as the UD football team. The UD team plays very good defense and then tries to manage the game with their offense. This UD team has beaten W&M and UNH this year (are those middle of the pack CAA teams too?). Anytime you win on the road in conference it is a good win, you never have to apologize for winning.

Now lets use the next 6 days to get ready for Villanova. That was a gutsy team win yesterday, I will take it.
