Monthly review: Top Dukes stories of July

With July drawing to a close, let’s have a look at what has happened this past month for the James Madison Dukes. There have definitely been some interesting developments, especially regarding new players for the upcoming season. However, we now have a few months of downtime before the season gets going in September. Remember to but September 3rd in your diary as that is when Duke’s first game of the season will be, where they are facing off against Morehead State. Until then, there is not much Dukes related happening unfortunately. Make sure to keep yourself occupied for the next month so you do not go crazy. I suggest playing some cool games at Euro Palace online casino. They even have some really cool sports themed video slot games including my all-time personal favorite, Football Star. In terms of the top Duke stories this month we have selected the top three acquisition stories that happened in July.

Tucker-Dorsey joins the Dukes

The former Lake Taylor linebacker joined the Dukes this month. Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey announced his happy news during the High School Sports Talk Show hosted on ESPN Radio 94.1. Tucker-Dorsey follows KeShaun Moore’s move to JMU as the second football player from Lake Taylor to join the Dukes this past month. In addition, he also follows his former teammate Darnell Ewell as the second player from Lake Taylor to commit early (although Ewell chose to commit to Notre Dame, not JMU).

Mitch states his intentions to transfer to JMU football

Connor Mitch, the former quarterback from the University of South Carolina decided to transfer to the Dukes at JMU. He decision may seem strange to some as he was given incentives and promises if he stayed; such as the chance to win starting job again at the summer practices. However, Mitch seems pretty happy with his choice to become one of the Dukes. Having Mitch as a quarterback for JMU is a huge win as it really bolsters the team.

Hawkins chooses JMU

Marcus Hawkins verbally agreed to join the Dukes this month. This is outstanding news as the senior defensive linesman is a really good player and will make a fantastic addition to the Dukes. He is only eligible to sign next year; in February 2017. So that is still quite some time away, but it is something worth celebrating nevertheless. What is great to hear is that Hawkins was not only attracted to signing with the Dukes for the football; but for the family atmosphere for which the Dukes are known. He also knows that JMU is a fantastic tertiary institution and that he will get a really good education here. We could not agree more!

So all in all, July has been quite a good one for the JMU Dukes. Between Tucker-Dorsey, Mitch and Hawkins, the Dukes’ lineup is going to be mighty impressive in the coming 2016-2017 season. We cannot wait for September to see how the team fares!
