Prediction Contest: JMU vs. YSU Championship Edition
Here we go. It’s our final prediction contest of the 2016-2017 season. By now the majority of you know how this works. But with the Dukes Bandwagon growing each day, we figured we better explain it for any newbies. It couldn’t be any simpler. Leave a comment letting us know who you think will win and what the final score will be. The person who comes closest to nailing it (winner & score) will earn the right to guest post about anything his or her little heart desires. Pretty simple, right? So let us know who you got below.

45-14. Am I crazy for thinking a 10-point win at NDSU is good for a 30-point win versus just about everyone else?
@Sunchase – no, not at all. Sure YSU has gotten better since they played NDSU but they lost by like 20. We will CRUSH.

Watched all of the YSU playoff games…
YSU on Offense:
– Big, physical front but relatively one dimensional (rushing)
– RB’s are small and quick. Webb (lightning) is 180 lbs. “Thunder” only tips in at 200 lbs but runs hard.
– QB hasn’t been much of a running threat and really hasn’t been that accurate throwing the ball but has hit on some big plays
– Patterson #4 Fastest WR – Play Action target
– When not in the backfield, they like to send Webb (RB) on wheel routes b/c he can outrun pretty much every LB they’ve faced
– TEs have been an absolute non-factor except for game-winning catch vs EW.
– Tendency to run off right side of line / including misdirection when they need yards
YSU on Defense:
– Corners line-up man to man / press coverage on most downs. Load the box with their safeties.
– Rivers #31 (best corner cover) doesn’t travel off of Defensive left side of the formation
– Stud Defensive ends are (relatively) small at 250 lbs…run at them to minimize their effectiveness / speed
– Give up lots of runs to RB and QB up the middle
YSU Special Teams:
– They can’t have a lot of faith in their FG K from anything 40+ yds
– Good Special Teams KO coverage
– Need to be mindful of Jody Webb on KO returns
– Would not be surprised to see a blocked punt similar to SHSU game
They haven’t seen a team that can win games via the run and/or the pass. Limit their big plays (especially from Webb) and this turns into a beat down.
Team speed and “Bridgeforth West” are the difference.
JMU 44-20
Penguins 31
Dukes 28
Going to play the game here and be “that guy” even though I think the we are going to destroy them.
JMU – 34
YSU – 13
100 – 0 JMU. I’m taking the blowout.
JMU — 41
YSU — 20
Hard fought game in the trenches, special teams TD gets YSU out of game plan and the Dukes pound the ball and win a physical game that is closer than the final score indicates.
P.S. Tailgating at games really took off during the Alex Wood era as we alumni HAD to do something to get us through the games!
