{"id":393,"date":"2010-03-04T08:06:35","date_gmt":"2010-03-04T13:06:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jmusportsblog.com\/?p=393"},"modified":"2010-03-04T08:06:35","modified_gmt":"2010-03-04T13:06:35","slug":"march-misery-at-the-caa-tourney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jmusportsblog.com\/?p=393","title":{"rendered":"March Misery at the CAA Tourney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s that time of year.\u00a0 When Lipscomb and Kennesaw squared off in the first round of the Atlantic Sun tourney today, it kicked off the most consistently exciting month in sports.\u00a0 Days on end of great matchups, late nights, miraculous upsets, white lies to the bossman, and general must-see mayhem.<\/p>\n<p>For some squads, and their fortunate fans, there\u2019s a least a decent chance of a few wonderful nights followed by glorious days in the office filled with reliving great moments, emailing your buddies, and old-fashioned gloating.<\/p>\n<p>And then there\u2019s March for JMU.\u00a0 A month filled with enjoying the greatness that is Dawn Evans, hoping the baseball team can live up to expectations, and watching the <a class=\"wp-caption\" title=\"This will brighten your day\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jmu.edu\/jmuweb\/cmpa\/bfwebcam\/bfwebcam.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">stadium cam <\/a>with dreams of Morehead State, PBR, and cornhole on a bluebird September day.\u00a0 Noticeably absent from this list is anything to do with Men\u2019s Basketball.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly every year since the magic ending in \u201995, the Dukes have managed to make the annual trip to Richmond a faster in n\u2019 out than the kid in American Pie.\u00a0 When it comes to a premature exit from the CAA tourney, JMU could teach Metamuecil a thing or two about regularity.\u00a0 (Used that before but couldn\u2019t resist &#8211; now didn\u2019t you all miss the old Standard T?)<\/p>\n<p>This year the boys have managed to nestle back into their honey hole: an 11 seed and the late game on Friday.\u00a0 Incredibly, and I\u2019m really showing my JMU boxer-shorts here, they\u2019re not in a terrible spot all things considered.<\/p>\n<p>First round they drew Drexel.\u00a0 A terrible matchup as the team lives up to its coach\u2019s name, Bruiser, and the Dukes play with zippy heart and testicular fortitude most of the time, but at the same time, it\u2019s not like anyone out there\u2019s jumping on the Dragons\u2019 darkhorse bandwagon and they always crap out when they dip below the Mason-Dixon.<\/p>\n<p>And just like in the NCAA\u2019s where 11 seeds are often in the best positions for deep runs (see George Mason, specifically Jai Lewis after a wing buffet), the winner of the 6\/11 game gets a sometimes vulnerable 3 seed.\u00a0 This year that\u2019s our favorite punching bag William &amp; Gary.\u00a0 Win those 2 and they\u2019re in the CAA Final Four, plus I\u2019d be able to get down to the old (not venerable) Richmond Mausloeum for Sunday\u2019s action.\u00a0 This does of course require the team actually caring, but Go Dukes!<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, for your Richmond pleasure, here&#8217;s a link to a guest post JMUSB Senior Lifestyle Correspondent Uncle Ron did for one of our all-time favorite sites, Wizznutzz, a few years back.\u00a0 It was really for Wiz training camp, so only a few of you will truly appreciate all\u00a0the references, and sadly, I&#8217;m not sure CARRSS has survived the economic downturn, but it&#8217;s classic nonetheless.\u00a0 <a class=\"wp-caption\" title=\"From Wizznutzz\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wizznutzz.com\/dailybacon.html\" target=\"_self\">The Daily Bacon<\/a><\/p>\n<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fjmusportsblog.com%2F%3Fp%3D393&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;height=80\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:80px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s that time of year.\u00a0 When Lipscomb and Kennesaw squared off in the first round of the Atlantic Sun tourney today, it kicked off the most consistently exciting month in sports.\u00a0 Days on end of great matchups, late nights, miraculous upsets, white lies to the bossman, and general must-see mayhem.
