{"id":9,"date":"2010-01-27T08:03:47","date_gmt":"2010-01-27T13:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jmusportsblog.com\/?p=9"},"modified":"2010-01-27T08:03:47","modified_gmt":"2010-01-27T13:03:47","slug":"the-rise-and-fall-of-mike%e2%80%99s-chevron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jmusportsblog.com\/?p=9","title":{"rendered":"The Rise and Fall of Mike\u2019s Chevron"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sanjeev, where have you gone?\u00a0 Sometime during the last year Mike\u2019s Chevron on South Main was apparently bought out\u00a0and the very definition of a \u201cconvenient\u201d store was shuttered.\u00a0 Somehow, this tragedy went unnoticed by current students blinded by the bright lights of multiple Sheetz-style megastations.\u00a0 But for Dukes of a certain age, this was the end of an era. \u00a0\u00a0An era of cheap alcohol, fluid hours of legal purchase, and past-expiration snacks when the munchies overwhelmed.\u00a0 In an age when the idea of <a class=\"wp-caption\" title=\"See &quot;Express Menu Miscellaneous&quot;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.davestaverna.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dave\u2019s Express delivering White Owls<\/a> had not yet been conceived\u00a0, <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Sanjeev&#8217;s<\/span>, er, Mike\u2019s was a beacon of [in]sanity in a mixed-up world, it\u2019s wares bearing the promise of debauchery yet unrealized.<\/p>\n<p>Identification and price were both relative and negotiable in all things where Sanjeev was concerned and if you could bring one \u201colder guy\u201d with you, the rest of you could help load the truck if you did it quickly and didn\u2019t act like an ass.\u00a0 For those privileged few lucky enough to live in the Harrison St. area during those heady times, you could even just byod (bring your own dolly) and roll that thing quickly back across Main.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a typical conversation on Thursday afternoon:<\/p>\n<p>Customer: Sanjeev, I need two kegs of Beast Light.<\/p>\n<p>Sanjeev: Ok, let me see id, that\u2019ll be $79.<\/p>\n<p>Customer: Wait, I thought they were $39 each, so shouldn\u2019t it be $78.<\/p>\n<p>Sanjeev: No, I give you special price today.<\/p>\n<p>Customer: Huuwha?<\/p>\n<p>Sanjeev: Or I give you three kegs Beast Ice same price.<\/p>\n<p>Customer: In that case, we\u2019ll take six. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>From there the night is very predictable (seriously &#8211; the power of Beast Ice when the drinking public doesn\u2019t know that\u2019s what they\u2019re\u00a0drinking is a scientifically provable fact)<\/p>\n<p>8 hours, 6 pretzeling songs, 1 fight, 2 arrests, 5 beer slides, 1 hospital admission (for alcohol poisoning), 2 dudes that should have been admitted in the fight but decided to just sleep it off instead, and numerous drunken hookups good and bad\u00a0 later, almost everyone goes home happy.<\/p>\n<p>It is inarguable that Sanjeev directly contributed to at least two thirds of all sex taking place in the Valley during his reign behind the counter of this humble service station.<\/p>\n<p>And for that we attempt to raise our 64 oz.
