Well, hope you all can enjoy this cool little package Rob put together about the opening of the incredible new stadium, because you certainly won’t find anything else to enjoy in this column.<\/p>\n

14-9 over CCSU.\u00a0 That’s a directional school from a state that doesn’t seem big enough to have directional schools.\u00a0 Last week we happily and earnestly presented the case for the half-full glass after a disappointing result against UNC, but\u00a0 this time I just can’t hold to the company line and it’s now time for full-blown panic!<\/p>\n

Was there good news?\u00a0 A little.\u00a0 The D as usual had very little to hang their head about and that absolutely bizarre display of FCS officiating that handed them an Al Michaels special TD after the game was meaningless.\u00a0 But the other two phases?!\u00a0 Dreck.<\/p>\n

Specials are giving the Dukes nothing.\u00a0 More hideous kicking and no spark in the return game.<\/p>\n

And the offense.\u00a0 Well, it’s almost unspeakable.\u00a0 And the amazing thing is I can’t pin any of it on the QB.\u00a0 The O-Line is clearly a work in progress, especially in the run game, but a 7-3 game is not the time to be putting in that work.\u00a0 (yes, I’m going full cliche in crushing the playcalling next).\u00a0 MM – wtf?!\u00a0 You’re killing JT because you refuse to let him throw in any non-obvious passing situation and then ask the impossible on 3rd and long.\u00a0 Every time, over and over, without fail.\u00a0 You do know the forward pass has been legalized in the Commonwealth, right?!<\/p>\n

There may be a few who say the kids lost focus in the new stadium, the Dukes got a few bad breaks, this UNC\/CCSU duo looks awfully similar to the Duke\/Bloomsburg start to what turned out to be a fanstastic ’08 season, but they’d be full of shit.\u00a0 We’re not giving up by any means, but I hope this season doesn’t come down to simply praying for a win at ODU.\u00a0 Bridgeforth was an amazing salve for retinas burned by atrocious football for one night, but if the Dukes are 1-3 when they next play there again, it will be painful, but it won’t be unexpected.<\/p>\n
