Youth with disabilities who are ambulatory, use a manual wheelchair, or use a power wheelchair will experience an introduction to sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, and ambulatory basketball through interaction with JMU students who will serve as mentors. The goal of Adapted Sports Day is to empower individuals with disabilities that new challenges\u2014such as playing a sport or even college attendance\u2014are possible to overcome.<\/p>\n<p><b>Adapted Sports Day FAQs<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>When is it?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The spring 2014 Adapted Sports Day at JMU will be held Saturday, February 8 on the James Madison University campus in Harrisonburg, VA. There will also be an optional meet-and-greet and JMU women\u2019s basketball game on Friday, February 7.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>How much does it cost?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Adapted Sports Day is free for participants (transportation to campus and lodging not included).<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Who can participate?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>All middle school, high school, and college-eligible students with disabilities are invited to participate. Students may be ambulatory, use walking aides, use manual wheelchairs, or use power wheelchairs.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>What should each participant bring?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Each participant should bring the medical release form completed and signed by a parent or guardian. All equipment will be provided.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Why should I encourage my child to attend?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Adapted Sports Day uses sport to empower youth with disabilities and show them what is possible.
