Zac won last week’s prediction contest and earned the right to guest post. He’s a two time winner who recently offered up his Top 10 Dukes. Here’s another list that we think you’ll all dig. Take it away Zac.<\/em><\/p>\n

Hello Dukes Fans, Zac here, back to entertain, explain and help you ascertain with unconstrained disdain just how we lucky are to have the Nerds as rivals. Seriously, I love those guys.\u00a0 I mean, they’re total nerds and I love beating them at football, but hey, we are lucky to have someone that fills that role.<\/div>\n

Before we start, some background: W&M is indeed one of our biggest rivals, and before PurpleHazed blames Jeff Bourne for that, it’s for historical reasons.\u00a0 W&M is the team we’ve played most in football.\u00a0 Do you know how I know this?\u00a0 The Mick told me.\u00a0 Actually, I told him.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
When I was a freshman, back in 2002, the Student Duke Club had a coaches meet and greet in the Convo.\u00a0 Mick was there and did a trivia section for prizes.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
(Sidebar: \u00a0Before he began, he introduced himself and gave a little background on his coaching history, listing where he had coached. When he listed UGA, me, being the good Georgian that I am, responded with “Go Dawgs!”.\u00a0 Mick looked up and said “who’s from Georgia?” \u00a0I raised my hand, and he asked “Where are you from, boy?” “Savannah, sir.” \u00a0He chuckled to himself and said “Savannah, huh? That’s a pretty town….. can you read and write? Did you turn the lights out when you left?”….\u00a0 God, I miss The Mick.)<\/i><\/div>\n

One of the trivia questions was “which team has JMU played the most?” \u00a0I got it right and The Mick gave me a visor, which to my eternal dismay I no longer possess.\u00a0 Seriously, I would give a pinky to have that visor back.<\/div>\n

But, if you don’t want to take my word for it, take the internet’s<\/a>.<\/div>\n

We’ve played W&M 36 times, and the series stands at 20-16.\u00a0 Which means if we win this weekend, the series will stand at…\u00a021-16.\u00a0<\/span>Yup.<\/div>\n

So, having established that, my top 10 reasons I love hating W&M:<\/div>\n

10. NEEERRRRRDDDSSSSSSSSS<\/div>\n

Duh. Come on.\u00a0 It’s so easy.\u00a0 They are nerds, and hardly try to argue otherwise.\u00a0 It’s even fun to say.\u00a0 Say it with me: NERRRRRRRRRRRDDDDSSSSSSSS!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
9. It’s actually a rivalry<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Sure, we’re 11-4 in games since 2000 (1-0 in the playoffs all-time), but we’re only 4-2 since 2008.\u00a0 As mentioned, the series is at 20-16.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
8. It’s a rivalry in other sports<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Basketball.\u00a0 Ugh, the less I say more about that the better.\u00a0 But the fact that they have been whoopin’ us in bball (especially in the conference tournament) makes beating them in football that much sweeter.\u00a0 Also they always have goofy looking white guys that make it easy to root against them and yell their names angrily.\u00a0 RUST-HOVENNNNNN!<\/div>\n

7. They are our polar opposite<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
They are stiff, rigid, lame, dusty, old, serious.\u00a0 We are joyful, loose, awesome, clean, young, fun.\u00a0 Their campus is like a library.\u00a0 Their parties are like group projects.\u00a0 Our campus is beautiful, spacious.\u00a0 Our parties are aggressive.<\/div>\n

6. They inspire our creativity<\/div>\n

This was for the 2004 Playoff game.\u00a0 It’s still the peak of my creative output and one of my proudest moments.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
5.\u00a0 Some of their fans are cool<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This is important.\u00a0 It’s not like all of their fans are total douchebags like Richmond.\u00a0 I have had great interactions with a lot of their fans that were very knowledgeable and well spoken.\u00a0 They didn’t come across as conceited know-it-alls.\u00a0 They had realistic views on their sports teams, and were people I wouldn’t mind sharing a beer with.<\/div>\n

4.\u00a0 Some of their fans are terrible<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This is also important.\u00a0 I need someone to just hate.\u00a0 And those people are the ones who use the “you’re going to work for us” chant, or talk about how JMU was their safety school.\u00a0 Also the people at the playoff game in 2004 who threw a full, unopened can of beer at a pregnant woman as we walked into the stadium.\u00a0 I’ve never been so ready to fight someone in my life.\u00a0 Except for Joe Millionaire.\u00a0 He gets his own bullet point:<\/div>\n

3. Joe Millionaire<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So at the 2004 playoff game, I had the above awesome incredible sign that got so much playtime on ESPN2. \u00a0 Well, one W&M fan in particular did not appreciate seeing it as he walked by, probably because he had just looked at the scoreboard and we were up by like 30.\u00a0 I don’t blame him.\u00a0 But he walked up to the bottom of the stands where I was sitting, and began to verbally assault me.\u00a0 The guy had no colors on (no surprise there), but I guess he self-identified as a W&M fan or a nerd and took offense to both.\u00a0 He invited me, not so cordially, down to the bottom of the stairs to engaged in fisticuffs.\u00a0 I was in the middle of about 100 JMU fans, and felt no pressure to do so.\u00a0 However, the dude was like 5’6″, and I’m a solid 6″, so I wish I had.\u00a0 To this day my friends act like he could have taken me, but I know I would have destroyed him.\u00a0 Oh, and by the way he looked entirely like a short Joe Millionaire.<\/div>\n

2. They’ve given us so many great ways to make fun of them<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The infamous (yet sadly gone from the internet) Plywood video, Lang Campbell stealing children’s bikes, the “Not in our house, not on this night” T-Shirts they wore to the 2004 playoff game, Pugs, the pantless Griffin, beating them without attempting a pass, oh man.\u00a0 I love them.\u00a0 They are so generous to us.<\/div>\n

So as you can see, W&M has been a really great rival of ours.\u00a0 Sure, I want to eventually leave them in the dust.\u00a0 But, for the time being, I will appreciate them as a rival and always look forwards to Dukes\/Tribe in the fall.\u00a0 And, say it with me one more time:<\/div>\n
