Prediction Contest: Dukes vs. Spiders
The Ticks might not have the record we expected them to at this point, but make no mistake, this is a big game folks. JMU faced a Richmond team on Saturday that would like nothing more than to spoil the Dukes undefeated season and stop the winning streak. They’ll bring the most potent offense that JMU has seen all year. It’s a big test, but one the Dukes are ready for.
But we’re really more interested in your thoughts on the game. Leave a comment below with your prediction for Saturday. The person who comes closest to nailing it (winner & score) will get to write a guest post. It’s that easy. Now let us know who you think is going to win and Go Dukes!
JMU 35
Richmond 21
Close game by JMU standards, but pull away at the end.
Probably the toughest game to predict this season. I think the defensive streak of 14 or less points allowed ends, but if it doesn’t, it’ll be the most impressive win this season.

Always interesting when the ticks are in town. Defense keeps them scoreless in the 4th as JMU pulls away. 31-21 JMU!
Lauletta finds a comfort zone. Schor counters. Wild and wooly shootout ensues (shades of 2015). Late in the fourth, with the home team holding a slim lead, Spiders take over in their own territory. Dukes seal the deal when Ron’Dell Carter pressures Lauletta, whose hurried toss is picked off by Jimmy FN Moreland.

I know there’s other posts to discuss the game specifically, but I’m too excited. Normally, I’d be really nervous for this game. Not downplaying their QB at all, because he’s amazing, but what our defense did against Sam Houston’s QB last year gives me the confidence that our players and coaches know how to prepare for a high flying attack, which was never the case before.

Unfortunately I think the streak ends here. We are too banged up on offense and Schor has made a lot of mistakes in the redzone that hasn’t hurt us yet, but it will hurt us big time in this one if we leave points on the field. Also I feel like we will go 3 and out too many times, we will face too many 2nd and longs due to lack of run game that will create unmanagable 3rd downs. That will allow UR plenty of opportunities to get its passing game going, and we know Lauletta is good.
Plus, this is a huge game for UR. Rivalry game, on the road, against #1 team in the country, AND it’s a must win for them to get in the playoffs. They played well against a good Nova defense last week too so they have confidence. I hope I’m wrong but I think there’s a lot more stacked against us than people are willing to admit. UR will come in ready with everything to play for. Also we have some sluggish starts recently too. Hopefully the blackout gets us pumped up! Go Dukes!

The hardest prediction of 2017 but here goes…JMU squishes the ticks 45-35. It will be another anxiety-riddled afternoon at Bridgeforth but we’ll prevail.
I, too, feel that this will be the toughest game of the season. The Spiders’ record is not impressive, but their motivation is “H-U-G-E” …
