JMU Drops to 9th in CAA Bloggers Poll

After a rough week in which the Dukes lost to ODU, Northeastern, and William & Mary, they plummeted in this week’s CAA Bloggers Poll. JMU finds itself in the 9th slot now. VCU surrendered the top spot to George Mason after holding onto it for the previous four weeks. After losing to Georgia State and Drexel, the Rams fell to third. As you can see from below, I dropped them a bit further. As far as the Dukes go, I’m not giving up hope, but they deserved to be dropped down near the bottom.  Thanks again to Mat Shelton from VCU Ram Nation for allowing us to vote in the poll. Here is my ballot.
1. GMU – Even a Mason hater like me can’t help but be impressed with the Patriots’ play of late.
2. GA State – Picked up their biggest CAA win in years (ever?) over VCU and lost a tight one to Mason.
3. Drexel – Beat VCU on Sunday night and looked to me like they could be finding their stride.
4. ODU – Monarchs basketball is rarely pretty, but it’s almost always effective.
5. VCU – Energetic and athletic team that will challenge for the CAA, but they had an off week.
6. UNCW – Young talent + difficult out of conference schedule = a team that was ready for CAA play.
7. Delaware – Reviewing this, this is the team I might be most undervaluing. A sneaky 3-1 in conference.
8. Northeastern – Mediocre team. Might not have obvious flaws like the teams ranked below them.
9. JMU – Horrible time to enter such a bad shooting slump. Entering a BRUTAL stretch and could’ve used wins.
10. Hofstra – If Humpty’s half-court heave rimmed out in December, they’d probably flip-flop with the Dukes above.
11. W&M – Always match up well against JMU, but will struggle against most of the league. Thornton is a player.
12. Towson – Yes, they are winless and struggling big time. Seth Davis took a bit of cheap shot saying they have no business playing D1 ball though. They are basically starting from scratch with only 1 returning letterman and a new coach.
