Start Wearing Purple

Todd has been one of a number of JMU fans clamoring for the school to adopt Gogol Bordello’s “Start Wearing Purple” as some sort of unofficial theme song. I was a little late to the party, but finally jumped on the bandwagon prior to football season. The song became a staple of our tailgates and typical gameday routines all season. Now the pep band has stepped up and begun playing this version. And it’s awesome. Next stop, full MRD’s version in Bridgeforth.

Seriously, that was a really good rendition. It’s not an “easy” song to put into a pep band or even a regular marching band but as a former MRD trumpet player, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the MRDs bust it out at the first home football game this fall. That rocked.

Love it…think it should definitely be a part of the gameday tradition in some shape or form. Still think and C & C’s “Welcome Home” is the perfect team entrance song. I’ve said it before…I hate the Hokies…but I won’t even try to argue that the “Enter Sandman” thing they have adopted as their own is anything but freakin’ awesome. “Welcome Home” could be that for us. Imagine 25,000 strong jumping up and down and singing the Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh part. “Start wearing purple” could be what the band plays right before kick-off or something like that. Can it be football season again please?

Love this song for Pep Band/Basketball season. Not sure how this will do in the huge football stadium with the whole MRD ensemble. Not too thrilled about possibly playing this for football season. I think this tradition should remain unique to basketball games and the Convo.
