Dukes’ Weekend Wrap

Slow weekend for JMU sports news, but one highlight was huge win against ODU in basketball! You know we were referring to the Lady Dukes, right?

The misery continues as the men’s hoops team loses to Canisius. In the Dukes’ defense however, the game was Koessler Athletic Center and nobody wins in there. It’s one of the cathedrals of college hoops. Rupp Arena, Pauley Pavilion, Cameren Indoor Stadium, and Koessler. You can argue about the order, but they’re all up there.

JMU baseball is picked to win the CAA and was scheduled to open the season at the new Veteran’s Memorial Park over the weekend, but the series against Marist was cancelled due to snowy field conditions. Therefore the 2010 season will kick start this Friday against nationally ranked Coastal Carolina University. Since we don’t have any weekend highlights to report, go check out this great story you might have missed about the Diamond Dukes special relationship with their number one fan. I’m warning you though, it might get a little dusty wherever you are. Kind of a tear jerker.

And finally, apparently some folks got way too bent out of shape about Snooki coming to campus. We poked fun at it to, but how anyone could become enraged by it is beyond comprehension. Apparently some people are so concerned with the damage that bringing a friggin reality tv star to campus for a comedic event could do to JMU’s reputation, that they started spouting racist nonsense all over Facebook. That should make the school look good. Great job jackasses.

    In your face, UPB!

For what its worth (not much), I thought it was amusing that they were bringing Snooki to JMU for an event. And I was really curious what said event would actually consist of.

The unfortunate backlash is embarrassing. I remember a similar reaction when Carrot Top came to perform during my freshman or sophomore year. All of the ginger-bashers started lighting up the VAX bulletin boards with hate.
