Prediction Contest: JMU vs ODU

Alright folks, we’ve reached the big one. It’s the second, and potentially final, match-up between James Madison and Old Dominion. Many ODU fans trolls have weighed in with their opinion that JMU fans in general, and Todd & I in particular, are whiny, jealous, and bitter that ODU is leaving the CAA and FCS football for a move to C-USA. Well, no we’re not. Disappointed that a potentially great rivalry is ending before it ever begins? Sure. And I’m absolutely certain that anyone with even a modicum of intellect understands that. But then again, these are ODU fans we’re talking about.

But I digress. It’s time to get to the predictions. If you’re new, this is pretty simple.  Leave a comment with your prediction for who will win on Saturday and what the final score will be. The person who comes closest (winner & score) will get to write a guest post next week. And for the sake of clarity, from now on we’ll say that closet equates to the lowest total score differential. That’s it. Now let us know who you like on Saturday.

I’m scared to say this, being a JMU fan, but looking at how the Villanova game went, here’s my prediction.

    ODU 27, JMU 20.

    Yikes.

  2. M@ / Nov 14 2012

    21-17 JMU

  3. Brad / Nov 14 2012

ODU 31 JMU 14. Gonna be ugly, but I will be there.

  4. Chris / Nov 14 2012

    ODU 42 JMU 23

  5. Cam / Nov 14 2012

Dukes 35 Soon to be in the sunbelt 32

  6. White Hall / Nov 14 2012

45-38 ODU aka the school for kids from the 757 who literally can’t get accepted anywhere else.

  7. MRD2012 / Nov 14 2012

    ODU 38 JMU 10

PS. It doesn’t really make sense to make the only winning criteria the lowest point differential. If the score ends up being 14-13, somebody who guessed 42-41 could win. Does that really make sense? Not really. I’m not saying that I think it matters all that much or that I’d be upset if I lost that way. Just putting it out there. Food for Thought.

  8. Rob / Nov 14 2012

Actually what I meant by total point differential was the total of the difference between each team’s predicted score and that team’s actual score. So if someone guesses 42-41 and the actual score is 14-13 then the total point differential would be 56. Showing the math it’d be (42-14) + (41-13). Make sense?

I think you and most other people probably would just trust us to make the right call, but I decided just to state it in the post to avoid another mess like we had last round.

    30 – 28 Duuuuukes

Last second FG from Cam to win.

  10. maddukes98 / Nov 15 2012

For JMU to win, it has to be low scoring because we can’t keep up in a shoot-out.

    JMU – 24
    ODU – 21

  11. 2004 Duke / Nov 15 2012

    Satan 42
    Dukes 31

ODU has a horrible defense, so it stays relatively close.

  12. '06 Duke / Nov 15 2012

    JMU – 34
    ODU – 31

I am predicting this score in hopes JMU has actually studied the ODU defense and will be able to “effectively” pass the ball and pick it apart. Cam with the FG for the win…

  13. Brian / Nov 15 2012

    Dukes 28, ODU 27. The Dukes get 2 non-offensive TD’s…

  14. David Chadwick / Nov 15 2012

    ODU 36 JMU 21

  15. Shady_P / Nov 15 2012

    JMU – 27
    ODU – 38

  16. Raleigh Mike / Nov 15 2012

JMU wins 31-28 as we head into playoffs having figured out how to open up our passing game.

  17. Lew / Nov 15 2012

    ODU 42
    JMU 27

  18. Deacon Danny / Nov 15 2012

With my heart and not necessarily with my gut, JMU finds enough defensive pressure to put on the QB to pull it out…

    JMU 34
    ODU 24

  19. Coach Priz / Nov 15 2012

28-17 bad guys. This could get ugly for our Dukes

  20. 25 Cent Wings / Nov 15 2012

Dukes 42 Football Carpetbagger Scalawags 28

Planning to drink every ounce of alcohol I see to superstitiously power the Dukes in giving a much-needed asskicking to the VT-scheduling-tactic-disciples-whose-best-win-in-history-is-still-a-3-point-win-over-a-mediocre-performance-by-us.

  21. BlueBoy / Nov 15 2012

But then again, this are ODU fans we’re talking about.Your grammar is in need of some repair. And this is coming from one of those trolls. You guys are gonna get destroyed……ODU 48-14

  22. Greg / Nov 15 2012

I’ll believe this team can be great till the bitter end.

    JMU – 31
All the kids who didn’t get into any other VA schools – 22

  23. Rob / Nov 15 2012

It was a typo BlueBoy. Go back under your bridge.

  24. Steve / Nov 15 2012

    JMU-20
    Dirty-17

  25. '04 Duke / Nov 15 2012

    Bad Guys – 35
    Good Guys – 24

  26. Drake / Nov 15 2012

I bleed purple but I just think the way things went last week, I can’t trust JMU. I know it’s at home, and we are in November, a historically successful month for JMU but I’ll go 42 Butterflies 21 JMU.

  27. Zac / Nov 15 2012

    Dukes 30
    ODU – 9

    OH YEAH I DID

  28. Devon / Nov 15 2012

    JMU – 45
    ODU – 42
Shootout, JMU wins with determination and wanting to hide the shame of the Villanova game, making the playoffs.

  29. M Easy 04 / Nov 15 2012

    Heart says:

    JMU 34
    ODU 30

    Brain says:

    ODU 48
    JMU 21

Hopefully this week’s gut check worked and we punch ODU in the mouth.

    GO DUKES!!!

  30. Daniel / Nov 15 2012

    ODU – 45
    JMU – 15

  31. JMU2K1 / Nov 15 2012

I hedged last week by predicting two scores. Not making the same mistake again this week. This one gets ugly early: ODU 45, JMU 27.

Seriously, if the line is ODU -6 1/2 or less, who wouldn’t take that?

  32. Ike N. Berry / Nov 15 2012

    JMU 34, ODU 21

    The Dukes will be hungrier.

  33. JMUMRD11 / Nov 16 2012

    Dukes 55 ODU 14

    NO MERCY

  34. BlueBoy / Nov 16 2012

    Rob –
That bridge is going to to crush your little bulldog (I mean pooch) tommorrow……..

  35. Dukes 4 / Nov 16 2012

In the 2008 playoffs, we went up against a high powered Wofford offense and I called that one dead on at 38-35. (yep both scores). This game is just so hard to predict as we dont know what JMU team will enter the stadium. JT , the D and the coaches need to dig deep and play their very best. As the prognosticator of that 2008 RL team vs Wofford, I shall stick with that same cardiac score of : The JMU Dukes 38, The Elizabeth River Rats 35.

  36. Megan / Nov 16 2012

    JMU- 34
    ODU- 28

  37. Cory / Nov 16 2012

JMU runs it down the Monies throat. Defense steps up thanks to a cold ass blustery day (this is when I miss the open ended stadium because it would be a lot worse)! JMU mimics the Nova/ODU game and wins it 38-14.

  38. Michael Monarch / Nov 17 2012

Oh no, the arrogant, intellectuals lost again, 38-28.

  39. Fly NAVY! / Nov 18 2012

“45-38 ODU aka the school for kids from the 757 who literally can’t get accepted anywhere else.”

    White Hall / Nov 14 2012

I found this comment very comical. I wonder what type of technical degree this individual is currently earning or has earned from JMU.

I am a proud Monarch and ODU gave me an education JMU can not offer.

I love JMU, it is a great school, but when I hear comments like this from current or past JMU students, it makes me really sad. It show the lack on intellect that some may have.

  40. 2004 Duke / Nov 18 2012

These ODU alums seem to forget that in Harrisonburg, students do not get shot walking across campus by other “students”.

  41. Fly NAVY! / Nov 18 2012

“These ODU alums seem to forget that in Harrisonburg, students do not get shot walking across campus by other “students”.”

    2004 Duke / Nov 18 2012

Haha! I am from Harrisonburg, and while the crime is less than in Norfolk, there is crime and JMU students are targeted and even have been shot in the past.

Making comments as idiotic as the one you have made only makes you sound like an idiot. I can understand your pride, but one can have pride without attempting to insult someone or a group of individuals.

I have nothing against JMU. I love the campus and I think it is a great school. I did not go there because they lacked credited engineering degrees.
