Gameday Open Thread: JMU vs. Richmond

JMU-Rhode Island FTBAlright folks, here we go. It’s gameday and the Dukes and Ticks kickoff in just a few hours. I’m heading down to Bridgeforth to watch the big game live. Anyone who is unable to attend in person, can tune in for the NBC Sportsnetwork coast to coast television broadcast. The game will also be streamed. And Madizone has free audio domestically and the full video for Dukes fans abroad.

Consider this your open thread for pre-game, in-game, and post-game chatter. Enjoy the game and as always, root fer Dukes!

If the weather is similar to CVille, looks like it could be a little wet out there, and that has me expecting increased turn overs all around.

On another note, Ticks fans keyed obscenities into my car a few years ago. Every year since then, I truly hope the students and fans come out in force to support the Dukes today, and marginalize any Rich-turd fan turn out. They are the very worst type of people.

Um…. where the well are all our fans??

Seriously ….wtf? On national tv, this looks like a Ga St home game.

Seriously these students are horrible!! About as bad as Mickey’s decision to quick kick that second time

I’m convinced the 3rd down bell tolls signify that the opposing team is going to convert.

The Referee has it out for Jmu

Argh. Dukes can never put a team away! D refuses to adapt in 2nd half, conservative Mickey-ball takes over (I.e. 3 short runs and out). It’s painful to see this unfolding here at the end…
    C’mon Dukes!

I was all set to make Cory happy and give MM a huge pat on the back this week… the score was 28-9 and on the verge of becoming a rout. As we should have all expected….we then shut down, and the final score was only 38-31. The stats from this week are very telling:

    The Good Stats:
-262 yrds passing, avg 11.6 yards per pass. We finally stretched the field and created more space for the offense to work.
-Abdullah: Only 6 carries, but averaged 6.5 yards/carry. Kid can straight ball.
-Q. Hunter: 5 catches, 54 yards. I forgot he was even on the team. Glad we finally got one of the captains involved in the offense.
-Dejour Simmions- 1 kickoff return for a TD. Last week I was thinking to myself, “I can’t remember the last time we returned a kickoff or a punt for a TD”.
-DQS: 13 carries. I know this is counter-intuitive, but the reason we won is because DQS had LESS than 10 carries. MM goes to the well WAY too much with DQS, and defenses key on him. It has to be a team effort, not the DQS show.

    The Bad stats:
-We gave up 22 points in the 4th quarter. That is more than the entire rest of the game combined.
-UR passed for over 400 yards. I know they threw it 64 times, but 400 yards in a college game is way too much to give up. Most of these were in the 4th quarter….see above stat.
-Dean Marlowe: 5 tackles. When the safety is the leading tackler, it is a bad day.

Overall, good win, ,but giving up 22 points at the end and only winning by a TD leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

2004Duke you made a previous statement on another post this week that read
“I hate…HATE richmond. The #1 reason I hate them so much is because they are essentially a D-III school.” Following that logic there is no way you would give me or MM a pat on the back for beating UR (because in your mind they should never be able to compete with us). Therefore you just wanted to say you would give us a pat on the back so that you would be able to later say see I told you they would give it away, etc. That 4th quarter was on the players, not the coaches. Anyone that has played or coached the game could see the players getting lazier as the lead increased.
