Second JMU Adapted Sports Day Coming in February

So most of you probably know by now that we mostly use this space to rumor-monger, whine about conference realignment, warn students about the horrors of middle age, and advocate that JMU football should pass more (ok, that one’s just Rob).  But occasionally, ok very occassionally, JMUSB has allowed us to hook up with JMU folks that are doing cool things actually worthy of discussion and promotion.

JMU Adapted SportPeople like Katie Chapman and the crew behind the new-in-2013 group JMU Adapted Sport who truly make us proud to be Dukes!  You can check out all the info about their Spring Event at JMU below.  They’re mainly looking for participants at the moment so help us spread the word, but you can also reach out to Katie if you’re looking to get more involved with the program.

Adapted Sports Day @JMU

Adapted Sports Day is a free event designed to expose middle school, high school, and college-eligible participants with disabilities to a college campus, using sport as a tool for empowerment. Youth with disabilities who are ambulatory, use a manual wheelchair, or use a power wheelchair will experience an introduction to sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, and ambulatory basketball through interaction with JMU students who will serve as mentors. The goal of Adapted Sports Day is to empower individuals with disabilities that new challenges—such as playing a sport or even college attendance—are possible to overcome.
