JMU vs. Lehigh: Gameday Open Thread
The Dukes face Lehigh at 12:30 today. The term “must win” is grossly overused, but yeah, this is a big one for week 2. Consider this your open thread for all pre-game, in-game, and post-game conversation. Enjoy the game. Let’s Go! Let’s Go! Let’s Go!
This start has me angry. And it has me thinking I’ll be the only one here today.
The “strength” of our team just got pushed all over the field.

Very discouraging first half. Lee didn’t look sharp, but Tapley dropped a sure TD on his best throw of the season. Can’t let those get away. Dukes left too many points on the board.
Where is all the “juice” Withers speaks of? Defense looks really soft. This is awful.
Nice play for “baller” Moreland. gives up a TD with 30 secs left in half.
Painful to watch the execution there at the end of the first half.
Not sure we could have performed much worse in first half. Dukes have better athletes just playing against a team that is better coached and has much more heart. You’d think a new coaching staff would have them playing hard at a minimum. Lehigh owns the trenches.

I hate it when a guy makes a stupid penalty like the nose guard did and taps his chest saying “my bad, on me.” Yeah everybody in the freaking stadium knows it was you that did something dumb.
Wow. Just….wow….this team is just not good. Vad Lee looks horrendous and Withers decision to go for it with seconds left in the first half instead of picking up 3 points is baffling. JMU has not been dominate in any sense. I’m tired of Withers’s slogans like “fierce focus” and “add value”. Time to start putting money where his mouth is. At least against MD they were beat with athleticism. Today they’re getting beat with pure X’s and O’s.
The secret is out … to beat JMU this season, run ( around the right end ). 🙁
It also appears Withers has completely given up in arnone, fg could have made it a one score game. Not sure we can talk a soccer player onto this train wreck.

It may take a few games but Lee is looking more comfortable making those long throws the past 2 drives. If not for the drop, he’d have 3 long TDs.

Defense really laid an egg after JMU’s 99 yard TD drive.
Lets just hope the offense has enough to carry this heartless defense.
These offensive line mistakes are just stupid.
Defensive front which was supposed to be a “strength” is soft, play calling is predictable and Lee’s passing ability is laughable. We are not a better team than we were a year ago, guess we will have to see if we are better in years to come. JMU fans are pretty faithful, but don’t pump us up with a bunch of bullshit and then put this crap on the field, that implies that we are just stupid.
This is the worst I’ve seen JMU look defensively against a similar opponent in years. Just sad.

Everyone is slowing crawling back in the window, off the ledge and onto the bandwagon again.
Offense showed something big in the second half. Lets hope that carries over for the rest of the season. Defense has quite a bit of work to do.
Lots of big plays today, run defense needs a lot of help but definitely a confidence boost to go and win on the road. That announcer did not like the refs placements, nor the fact JMU was getting the ball snapped quick.
No we are not. Beating that time in that manner doesn’t show us anything. Bottom line is expectations/hype were clearly mis-set and Withers is a PR genius but not looking like much of a football coach YET. Again, if he said that it was a rebuilding year and not to expect much for the first few years that is one thing, but it was all hype all off season, you reap what you sew and he invited criticism by overhyping the talent on this team (not to mention running off alot of talent that doesn’t look like it was justified at this point).
Hey at least he had the balls to stand up and say something. Not like most coaches who poor mouth and want you to think the team is terrible. Although the offense had to drive 91 and 95 yards. We outscored them 21-7 in second half. A win is a win is a win.
According to ESPN, the 2 drives were 99 and 98 yards. Either way, pretty hard to to one 90+ yard drive, but to do 2 in a game is a good sign.
A win is a win. I hope the guys get used to playing in the new defense soon because we will need to much improved going into league play. Hopefully they can get things iron out next week for one last out of conference opponent. Offense is looking pretty good. I like the fact we are attacking down field with the throwing game. Two 95+ yard scoring drives are really hard no matter who you play.

Wow. I am really glad I don’t read the comments on this blog very often (I really enjoy the main part of the blog). Chill out people. Bottom line is JMU has not been very good for a few years. It is going to take more than a couple of games for a new coach to make a difference. I am not saying that Withers is the guy, but holy crap, you people were ready to fire him in the first quarter of the second game of his time at JMU. I love JMU, I hate to see them lose or even play badly. But, this is going to take some time. The Dukes pulled it out against a good team. Enjoy it.
