Student Appreciation Day Looks Like it Was a Blast

There are lot of things that exist today, that I’m glad weren’t around back when we were in school. Instagram, Twitter, ubiquitous cameras and video, are all cool, but the old guy in me thinks they would have been more trouble than they’re worth as a student. You know what would have been cool to have around though? Student Appreciation Day.

For the second year in a row, Coach Withers and the football program hosted Student Appreciation Day at Bridgeforth Stadium last Saturday. It’s a day to give back to the fans, and market the football program. Students were given the opportunity to tour the locker rooms, participate in drills, and get to know the players and coaches. In turn the players got a chance to thank their fellow students for their support, and maybe attract a few new fans as well. It’s a win-win in every sense.

Hopefully the event continues and grows to be bigger every year. Withers brought the idea to JMU after experiencing a similar event at Ohio State. Ohio State of course has some legendary support and just drew 99,000 fans to its Spring Game. JMU isn’t quite there yet, but things like Student Appreciation Day are exactly what’s needed to grow the fanbase. Now if we could only convince Withers to have Alumni Appreciation Day.

h/t to @jmudukeblawg for bringing the video to our attention
