JMU 51, Elon Big Fat Zero

Guessing the Dukes will be swapping out the gold lids for the purple with this all purple set for the purple out and it will be BEAUTIFUL!

All we really want to do is watch that “Comin’ to your City” clip Gameday put out as the announcement (and Vad Lee’s imitation on balcony of the APC) over and over and read Matt Jones’ incredible behind the scenes story forever. I also have no idea how I’m going to sleep or do any work this week. But Madison did play a game this past weekend and we feel it’s only right to say something about that. Well, it was really more of a scrimmage than a game. Believe it or not, in person I didn’t actually think it was the Dukes best work this season, but I’m not gonna argue with 51-0.

The Good

The Crowd – Dukes rolled deep in Carolina! And great job by the Triangle Chapter of the Alumni Association.

Kloosterman and Trai Sharp scoring their first career TD’s. – It was also great to see that Abdullah and Johnson were the first ones out to celebrate with him afterwards. The chemistry on this team right now is fantastic.

Elon’s stadium. I’ve given Elon as much crap as anyone and I will never not hate that this is what the CAA has become, but that’s a sweet little stadium. Looks great, so easy for fans, and soooo much fun to see a rare game played on beautiful natural grass these days.

Pretty much everything else the Dukes did.

The Bad

The stress parents of kickers go through. I had the great pleasure to meet Ryan Maglio’s mom yesterday and it was a thrill to hear his story of perseverance throughout his career to even be in the position he is, but after speaking with her and then watching that nightmare ending for the Michigan punter later, I have to admit that I’ve seriously underrated the sheer panic and terror that parents of kickers go through every single game. Also really cool to hear what a great friend and mentor former Kicker Cameron Starke is for Ryan. Also great to meet Jordan Brown’s folks – couple of good yinzers that LOVE them some JMU!

The Ugly

Who are we kidding, there’s no ugly when you hang half a hundred on ’em and pitch your first shutout since ’08.

Saw this article (below) in my Facebook feed. Someone wrote it and they detail all the dumb excuses students throw out to ‘justify’ their not showing up at the game. Couldn’t be more right. The good thing that, you probably aren’t aware of, is that the GameDay announcement really seemed to get students to see how bad they are at supporting their team. It seems as though this announcement is their wake up call. (Just to clarify, I am a student, so I think it’s ok if I rag on my peers)

Thought I’d share a pretty unique experience I had at the game on Saturday. My cousin is a HS offensive linemen in the Charlotte-metro area and was invited to Elon this weekend on a recruiting visit. I got to tag along as his “+1” and went through the whole recruiting pitch with him all afternoon leading up to the game. (Out of respect for my Cousin, had to put my pride aside and wear neutral colors.)

Toured the football facilities, met the head coach, and even got to watch their Beat JMU hype video before heading out to watch pre-game warmups from the Elon sideline. Not 10 minutes in, I texted a couple brother Dukes and said, “…We’re about to destroy these kids.” Was impressed how organized, crisp, and precise JMU’s pre-game routine was. Elon’s..not so much.

Have to agree with you on how nice their stadium was, too. The head coach made a comment about how the Elon President was a stickler on campus appearance (down to the color of the brick), and that he was extra particular about how the recent renovations made to the stadium needed to match the overall look and feel of the university.

Score speaks for itself. And man did I love watching that thrashing while sitting amongst a bunch of Elon commits/recruits and their parents.

Keep rootin, folks. This team is special.

The walk to the game, though long, was fun also. That party outside the stadium was really cool; though kinda sad on the way back out to see all those empty and forlorn tents.

My sign idea is as follows:

Muffy and Biff will smell the Duke Dog’s Whiff!!!

Also as a former season ticket holder badly need 2 tickets to game.
A callous non-gratuitous cry for help from a very loyal JMU fan.

OK, the next month is the REAL season. I don’t think game day will be a great distraction because Withers and his staff have shown they are good at keeping these guys grounded. let’s just run the table and host a playoff games, and everyone meet in Plano.

    Signs for Game Day:

    O.D. who?

or, have a sign with Duke Dog whacking a spider with a rolled up newspaper like Garfield does.

    Oh yeah, my GameDay sign:

    Playoff appearances: JMU – 11, Alabama – 1, VT – 0.

    Obviously in a prettier format

I guess the shutout is an indication of the team’s strength and capabilities.
