Former South Carolina QB Connor Mitch is Now a JMU Duke

ConnorAfter weeks of speculation about where he’d transfer, former University of South Carolina QB Connor Mitch finally announced that he’s headed to JMU yesterday. Mitch won the starting job at USC prior to last season. Unfortunately for him, he suffered hip and shoulder injuries that knocked him out for the year after only two games. He has already graduated and will come to JMU with two more years of eligibility while he pursues a graduate degree.

Mitch was a four star recruit for Steve Spurrier coming out of high school, throwing for over 12,000 yards and earning PARADE All-American honorable mention. He was third on the Gamecock’s depth chart coming out of spring ball, but head coach Will Muschamp said he was going to give him a chance to compete for the QB 1 spot in the fall.

While Mitch has to be considered the favorite to start at QB, he’ll still need to beat out Bryan Schor. After Vad Lee went down with an injury last season, Schor stepped in and assumed the starting role. He was solid, but not spectacular. Now he’s got to beat out a 6’4″ 214 pound former SEC starter to win the job.

This is a great get with 2 years of eligibility to go.

Very exciting news. Rare to get two years from a graduate transfer.

Mitch won the starting job at USC while playing at South Carolina? THAT’s impressive 😉

Mitch is injury prone, a slow decision maker on the field and frankly, just not that good of a QB. He’ll be a decent backup at JMU, but if he’s starting, it will be a long season.

Ugh, the negativity begins already. Why can’t we just be happy a 4 star recruit is leaving a SEC school to come to James Madison? Worst case scenario, he is a good backup we desperately needed. Best case, and more likely, he is a stud at the FCS level playing in a new offense and a change of scenery helps him out a good amount. I personally have a new found excitement for this upcoming season. Go Dukes!

“down south” – do you even keep up with the talent that’s on this roster…?

Exactly Devon —– I don’t recall Vad Lee burning up the ACC as a QB at GT but what a change of scenery, change of system, and boom STUD at the FCS level.

He should be a good addition to the team. Go Dukes

guys, I live in Columbia SC — I have seen Mitch, who, as a senior this spring was beaten out by a freshman and a sophomore. Don’t be dazzled by the SEC QB status — it isn’t really that impressive, and he shouldn’t be anointed as the starter simply because he played on an SEC team dearth of QB talent (they were 3-9 last season and lost to Mike Houston’s Citadel FCS team after all — and he couldn’t start on that squad).

I will guarantee this, if he starts for the Dukes, he won’t last the season — injury will be most likely cause, benched for high number of interceptions would be second.

Down South……you are completely off base. First off, he was not a senior this past spring. Think it out buddy how could he be a senior and still have two years of eligibility left. Second, yes he got hurt last year as a redshirt sophomore but it was the first injuries he has had in his career.Third, i don’t know where you get the interception information. He has never thrown an interception in a game at South Carolina and over the past two years he has the lowest interception rate in both spring sessions. You obviously have a problem with Connor. Did he steal your girlfriend or something?

Charles Berry was another I-A/FBS transfer that everyone was excited about once upon a time. They all aren’t Justin Rascatis or Vad Lees. I hope it works out like the latter two, though: Schor didn’t get any better as last season wore on.

Interesting news.Hope injuries don’t affect to his performances.

Hey remember when this happened last year? SCHOR, but it didn’t matter!
