Dukes Dominate Delaware

Well now, that was a test passed with flying colors! JMU methodically rolled over Delaware in the ‘Burg on Saturday and it was immensely satisfying to see the progress this team is making. The 43-20 final score definitely doesn’t even do justice to the beatdown JMU put on their old nemesis the Blue Chickens as it was 43-6 before garbage time.

The Good

Pretty much everything, but dominance at the line of scrimmage against a big, physical Chickens squad was a most pleasant surprise. The O-Line has been great this year and we expected they’d find their way again, but the road-grading manner in which they wore out Delaware was unexpected. And the other side of the ball was even more exciting as the Dukes built on the big-time pressure they generated up front in the second half up in Maine last week with their consistent appearance in the backfield.

Bryan Schor making plays – This is almost exactly what we asked for last week, a little more on Schor’s plate and he seemed more than capable of handling an expanded playbook. He also just flat-out made a few plays this week and showed flashes that make us think he and the offense as a whole still have plenty of room for growth.

dclogo_horizontal_fullcolorIt’s Duke Club Week! The DC is the presenting sponsor of next weekend’s game with W&M and they’re using this week to promote everything about the organization that provides all kind of support to ALL of JMU’s Student-Athletes. Not even asking for money this time around, just spreading the love and knowledge that allows all of the Dukes to attend our favorite place in the world.

The Bad

Inconsistency in the kicking game is definitely a concern. We do like Tyler Gray a lot and it’s nice to see that his misses this year were well-hit balls that missed only because of inaccuracy, which seemingly can be improved with practice, but it’s also not entirely on the kicker. Something just isn’t quite clicking for the Dukes’ timing either and it’s definitely something they need to dial in before they end up in a competitive fourth quarter eventually.

The Ugly

Those fluorescent yellow Chicken pants are a hot mess and seemingly a betrayal of UD’s long-standing pride in their traditional uniforms.

CAA Refs are a special bunch!

I felt Luke the refs were better than usual this week. Still trying to figure out what happened on that kickoff when we had everyone up for an onside and they just kicked off. But I couldn’t really see from the other end of the stadium. It may have been the right call.

Impressive win. I think we might just be pretty good. Love this coach and the game plan. So glad Dithers is in Texas. Still a tough schedule ahead.

Can we add the craptastic-ness of Madizone’s feed to the “bad” list? I had major issues all game.

Can we take a second to congratulate Coach Withers, Scott Bakula, Sinbad, etc… on their win last weekend against something called Incarnate Word. Great work coach.
