Simple Misunderstanding Leads to Senator Displaying “Go Dukes” Sign

The tweet and picture above came from Senator Mark Warner last week in response to a funny little mix-up made by a JMU student. As reported in the Washington Post, JMU junior Eric Davey was caught off guard when he received an email from Mark Warner wishing he and the rest of JMU’s student body good luck on exams. Davey tweeted that he mistakenly thought the email was from US Senator Mark Warner at first, before realizing it was actually from JMU VP for Student Affairs and University Planning Mark J. Warner. A short time later Senator Mark Warner tweeted the above response actually wishing Davey good luck on exams and throwing in a “Go Dukes” for good measure.

And before we go off the rails, please understand that we’re not endorsing, criticizing, or even commenting on Senator Warner or any other elected official. One of my pet peeves is when sports bloggers post something overtly political and then warn readers to “keep politics out of the comments”. Don’t get political if you won’t let your readers do the same. With that being said, can we please avoid any political arguments here? Because I swear we’re not trying to be political. At all. We posted this because we thought it was funny and an interesting anecdote related to JMU & social media. That’s it. And since Todd and I are polar opposites when it comes to politics (and important things like our allegiances in the NFC East and NL East), chances are half of you think I’m a dumbass and the other half think he is anyway. Thanks!

Agree totally with you; any mention of JMU in the larger world, by people famous for politics, personality, or talent, is great to see. I like that you guys keep politics out of it, actually, as I’ve virtually given up reading some of my formerly favorite pop culture sites because the writers would bring politics into the most bizarrely unrelated things.

Calm down guys… it didn’t come off as political at all.

Phillies and Nats both suck, go Braves.

I agree with you about the Phillies and Nats Zac, but I disagree about the Braves. And considering that there is no such thing as Marlins fans, you can probably figure out that I’m a Met fan. Go Mets!

Yeah, I got the same email and thought the same thing at first. I just wasn’t clever enough to get on Twitter and tweet about it. Oh well… you win some, you lose some.

Unless you’re JMU Men’s basketball. In that case you Lose quite a few with a cupcake win thrown in every once in a while.
