This Is What A JAC Card Looked Like the Last Time JMU Made the NCAA Tourney
Yep, that’s my JAC card. I found it at my folks’ house last weekend. It’s from a long, long time ago. From my freshman year at JMU in fact. Otherwise known as the last year the Dukes made the NCAA tournament. Just a couple quick thoughts:
1.) It’s not the most flattering photo. I know this. To be fair though it was taken right in the middle of my awkward phase. A phase that lasted from approximately the time I turned 14 until yesterday. And tomorrow my looks will start deteriorating as I begin my rapid descent to the grave. Today though, I’m dashingly handsome.
2.) JMU apparently had no restrictions on students wearing hats in ID photos back then. Nor did they seem to have any issue snapping the photo just in time to capture me mouth agape like that. Much appreciated.
3.) Nice signature loser.
4.) I have no clue why I’m looking up. Maybe my eyes were glazed over because this was taken at Freshmen Orientation. In the middle of July. And it was 95 degrees and I had just finished up an hour long seminar in an un-air conditioned room on how to login to the VAX to check my electronic mail account.
That is awesome. Believe it or not, I still have my JAC card AND the solid white ID that was before that. I was a junior or senior when they made that ID change.
What was the VAX? The 1994 electronic registration program? I believed it was called e-campus when I was there a little more recently, but I think I heard it’s called something else now.
O how the time flies.
The VAX was the computer system that supported the campus network at the time. It had a version of email that most people probably wouldn’t recognize today. Green on green text bases screens. Fancy stuff.
What kind of hat is that? San Diego?
Yes. It is a Padres hat. And I have no earthly idea why I was wearing it.
Does anyone know if there is a good reason why Arman Marks never plays? I thought he was pretty good last year and he’s supposed to be a good shooter. I doubt he can put up any worse of a rim clanger than Ron Curry.
