JMU Alum Jay Woodson Is Hoping for a Big Break
Jay Goodson, JMU Class of 2004, is competing on this season of the Golf Channel’s Big Break Mexico. The show pits 6 men and 6 women against each other for the chance to play a professional tour event. The competition takes place in IBEROSTAR Playa Paraiso Golf and Spa Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico where contestants face off in a number of weekly challenges and competitions. It airs Monday nights at 9:00 PM and two episodes are already in the books. So far, Jay has already earned the nickname “Mr. Perfect” for his JMU charm and looks. Standard.
Jay was a two time All CAA golfer while at JMU and holds the school record for lowest career stroke average. After graduation, he turned pro and struggled along below the PGA level. In 2011, the frustration got the best of him and he gave up on his dream of making the tour. He returned home and taught high school for a year, only to find that his students motivated him to give it another go. In 2012 he made his return to professional golf and won the Virginia State Open. With his passion for the game reignited, he’s hoping that he can capitalize on the opportunity Big Break provides and finally play on the PGA Tour.
