Dukes vs. Albany Open Thread

Here’s your open thread to discuss all things pre-game, in-game, and post-game as the Dukes host Albany for the first time in CAA play on a sold-out Family Weekend in Harrisonburg today. Game is available (and we use the term available loosely) for free on MadiZone HD thanks to the JMU Alumni Association.  Hopefully with the great weather and big crowd, the volume will keep the feed running smoothly today.  As always, join the Twitter fun @JMUsportsblog as well. Go Dukes!

Quick Note: While we’re sure Carr Report discussion will weave its way into today’s thread, we’ll delve deeper into that over the next couple of days in addition to the normal postgamer.

    Shoutout from Convo!

Looking forward to the conference opener today, but I can’t imagine it will be anything but a blowout. Albany is BAD. Anyone disagree?

I disagree that today is the conference opener if thats what youre asking.

conference home opener, excuse me. seem to have missed a word.

Does Mickey get the credit when the team plays well?

    Cory-

No. Not against Albany senior high school. I hope you weren’t being serious.

tuned in just in time to watch albany score a td and 2-pt conversion…and now a safety. i thought taking a weekend off from paying attention would blunt my cynicism — i thought wrong…

  7. Cory / Oct 5 2013

2004duke yes I’m serious. A good coach gets his team up for good and bad teams alike.

Mickey just gave Starke the death sentence in the post-game presser. “His injury must be chronic…we’ll have to see what to do.” = Starke will not be kicking anymore.

Along those same lines, I really hate it how MM refers to all Fr/Sophs as “that kid”. You recruited him. He is part of the TEAM. You can at least call him by his G.D. name.

GREAT JOB TODAY BY THE COACHING STAFF…. BIG WIN OVER THE WORST TEAM IN THE CONFERENCE.

    (This Bud’s for you, Cory)

2004duke said something positive albeit snarky. I didnt think he could admit that someone besides him actually could do something right. But thats probably the booze talking.

2004Duke has a Ring. I’ll take his side in JMU football arguments.

Cory… quit being a hater. When MM out coaches Villanova, Richmond, Delaware (fail), W&M and/or Towson, I’ll be first in line to blow up his ego.

I’m really excited about Gage Steele. Despite being apparently named after a porn star, he has been a welcome surprise on defense. Really pleased with how our front 7 have been playing so far.

Jmu did what they were supposed to do yesterday — get a nice win against an overmatched team. they get one capital letter back. Will be interested to see what benefits the change in kickers will provide.

Now it’s time to sit back and read the CarrSports report to see if there is anything of substance.

On Starke – If he is hurting, I am glad MM came out with that info because he had always been very reliable and just seemed to come off the rails this year. If he is hurt shut him down and go with Sharples. We can’t go with someone who is missing 1 PAT in each of the last 3 games if he is hurting.

Punting game looked waayyyy better this week. I hope JMU has shelved the rugby style kick in favor or traditional punting. The punter looks good when JMU just lets him punt traditionally.

Khalid Abdullah is a flat-out beast – that young man needs to be getting 10-12 carries minimum per game.

Daniel Brown – I don’t think FCS CBs can defend this guy with his size/speed/hands on a consistent basis.

On a bad note – what happened again at halftime. This 3rd quarter hangover has got to end. Today is the last game JMU can afford to be doing that.

did anybody notice what Maine did to Delaware yesterday? They might be looking at 9-3 given their remaining schedule (Bill/Mary, Stony Brook and URI @ home; ‘nova, albany, unh on the road) which projects to 2nd or 3rd in the conference.

Jmu needs 2 of 3 in the upcoming stretch to have a realistic shot at 8-4; being 7-4 going to towson would not be a comfortable position to occupy.

    bring on the pudding game….
