Prediction Contest: JMU vs. Stony Brook
Life got in the way and we didn’t have time to do the prediction contest last week. And JMU lost. Maybe it was our fault. Or maybe it’s just because the game was played on the road. The world may never know. In any case, let’s run the prediction contest back again this week. Same rules as ever. Leave a comment indicating who you think will win this Saturday’s game and what the final score will be. The person who comes to closes to predicting the outcome correctly (winner & score), will get to write a guest post next week.
So it’s the Dukes vs. the Brook (is that a thing? can we make that a thing?) in the first ever CAA match-up between the schools. It’s an absolute must win for JMU if the Dukes hope to keep their ridiculously slim hopes for the playoffs alive. Let us know who you think will win in the comments. Keep rootin fer Dukes.

35-18 JMU

Everyone groans over the “New CAA” and why we should move up.

Players have no confidence and respect for MM; I think they have mailed it in for this season – hope I am wrong.
Stony Brook – 31
JMU – 24
also I predict:
– JMU will knock at least one Kickoff out of bounds as they consistently try to hit the corner when they have a kid that can kick to the end zone each time. Following the first kickoff out of bounds or good return past the 30 – MM will call for the high/pooch/high school kickoff that only goes to the 35-40.
– We will badly shank at least one rubgy punt then abandon that for the day.
– Birdsong will do at least one pooch punt that goes in the end-zone and nets JMU 10-15 yards.
– Wells will get at least 2 – 10+ yard penalties.
Dukes get lucky again after sitting on a small lead.

Inspired play at home rallies the dukes past an early 14-0 deficit.
0-0
neither team can find an edge and the NCAA has to vote to call the game off on January 15 because the refs are tired and want to see their families.

Everyone, please welcome MRD Drum Major Alex Zuber to the blog! The MRDs will be winning on Saturday.

I am staying with family in the Hampton Roads area and there was a story in the paper that reported Jeff Borne might be in line to replace the retiring AD at. Virginia Tech. I would like for all of us on this blog to see of we can make that happen. We can tell them of they take Borne, we will also throw in Mickey Matthews as a “bonus.”
JMU – 45
Stony Brooke – 22
Dukes head to Towson hoping to knock off the number 8 (or higher ranked) team. A win here and a win at Towson is the only playoff chance we, they, Mickey have at playoffs.
lol @ Shady…. nailed it!
Cory- You must have attended William & Mary with Jimmye Laycock…. there is no “e” in “Stony Brook”.
Hope I am wrong…

Be careful what you wish for about replacing Mickey. Let’s review: when he came to the Burg football was the pits. Alex Wood was a joke. In his years here he has won a championship ( I know 9 years ago, but Shanahan was longer than that and he still coaches.) he has been instrumental in getting the facilities, the Peckler Center and the stadium built and upgraded to be, arguably, one of the best in FCS, if not the best. He has an overall winning record for the program and has more victories than any football coach here I believe, although I don’t know what Challice McMillian’s overall record was. After reading this blog I know that everyone on here is a better coach than Mickey, (tongue in cheek), and OBVIOUSLY knows more about football. He has made mistakes, sure, but I don’t think you kick a guy who has done that much for the program to the curb. The major mistake he has made has been to raise expectations at JMU to such a high level that the fan base is sometimes unrealistic. if you want to talk about changing coaches, let’s start with the secondary coach, Lezotte. When it is 3rd and 7 too many times he has the corners playing 10 yards off the ball and their first move is to backpedal. Why do you think all of these teams, ODU, Richmond, UNH, Delaware, etc. play the dink and dunk offense? They know the underneath is going to be wide open because of soft coverage. It is hard to get pressure on a three step drop, but what do I know, I’m just a fan and a former high school assistant coach. When JMU makes the move to D-1 that may be a time to start fresh, maybe then JMU will need to hire a head coach who has been a head coach at a D – 1 school, but remember, changing coaches is like marrying a divorced person, no matter how pretty they look, somebody didn’t want them.
Mickey is the Man. He built the program to where it is now. Believe me some players may not like Coach, but they all respect him.

Expectations are good. But one must understand 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 was a great run for a better part of a decade. Those were very talented teams from top to bottom with more experience in the trenches. JMU will get back to making deep playoff runs soon enough.
Well said @Tidewater Duke Fan; I know ‘Can the Coach’ is the favorite answer for Alumni and fans when a program stops performing; but it didn’t work for the ‘Skins. Granted UVa stuck with the same coach for way too long, but that guy never had much success.

They play well at home
Mickey still goes nuts on side lines
O line give up 3 10 – 15 yard penaties after big gains.
Please let #10 catch some passes!!!

tidewater duke fan – you need to post more. This guy makes a lot of good points and he’s right across the board. There some people on here that know more about football than the coaches that taught them (this sarcasm is pointed at our resident “national champ” 2004 Duke). While I still think a fresh start might help, I’m definitely not going to campaign against the man that made JMU relevant (like others before him at other schools George Welsh, Frank Beamer, Bobby Bowden).
Plus, if we fire Mickey, I’ll have to go and change my NCAA TeamBuilder information and thats too much hassle. I say we keep him afterall.
Why did R.J.Harris run all over us? Scouting error?
Who is the SB secret weapon?

38-31 Dukes.
It looks like Stony lost their two best backs in the Buffalo game . They had beaten RI, but have lost to the CAA teams. Last year they beat Villanova in the playoffs then lost to Montana St.
Dukes should win.
35-17 Dukes.
It’s been a rough week after that loss at UNH (for my fandom). But you ‘root in the good, bad, and like last week – Ugly. In being frustrated with MM or whatever we blame it on – we have to remember why we care – our love for JMU and the team.
Team pulls it together for the seniors and makes a desperate attempt to scramble into the playoffs.
Let’s root for the Tribe. EBERTT
I have wrestled all week with coming up to the game even with free alumni tickets that I appreciated getting. I’m totally not excited about Stony Brook but I will say “we all” owe Stephon Robertson a send off like no other. Being one of the best linebackers if not the best. I want to say good bye and pay homage to one hell of a football player. I only got to see him play a couple of times…but thanks for kicking butt in a JMU uniform and playing for us…Sincerely!!

44-12 Dukes. I feel a little bit like I’m playing the price is right here, but I feel more like Stony Brook is beat up and JMU is too angry and too good at home. Stage is way too big for SB here.
