Coach Withers Says Put Your Dukes Up!
Todd and I have been a little preoccupied in general lately and more than a little distracted by the World Cup. While we might be distracted, it’s pretty clear Coach Withers and the Dukes are working hard and are zeroed in on the upcoming football season. The video above proves that. It also might prove that high tech moisture wicking shirts are the new Bike coaching shorts. In any case, the relaunch of the new (and hopefully improved) JMU Dukes football program will take place on August 30 against Maryland. It will be here sooner than you think. Thank God.

I wish Coach Withers the very best….. but right now he’s a walk-on. That means you are not even a human being until you prove yourself on the field. Maryland would be a great place to start.
Sure, he’s still got to prove himself. No doubt about that. I’m really optimistic though and appreciate all of the energy he’s bringing to the program. And I applaud his efforts to create enthusiasm amongst the fans, not just with the players. The old regime failed miserably in the fan engagement department. It won’t mean anything if the Dukes don’t win, but I’m strangely confident.
I cannot recall this much excitement and energy around JMU football ever. Hope the staff can keep the momentum going. Love what Wither’s staff has going with energy, recruiting (transfers & 4 year dudes).
If he really wants to make a statement and break from the old regime….. rather than take Maryland’s check, pack it in, roll over and “get ready for the real season”, he will go out there and light them up.
Nothing has ever pissed me off as much as MM’s “let’s run the clock and not get anyone hurt because this game doesn’t count” speech.
I completely agree. I you put the pads and helmet on you should be playing to win from the opening kickoff. I agree MM treated these as glorified scrimages to take the check —- b/c MM did not like to schedule these games. JB made him play them — MM wanted another guaranteed cream-puff win in that slot.
