Gameday Open Thread: JMU vs. Towson State
It’s a beautiful day for college football. Thankfully, Vad Lee and the Dukes’ beautiful offense will be playing on the road against Towson State. Kickoff is set for 3:00. You can tune in and watch on CSN or catch the stream via CAA.tv. The Dukes are rolling and undefeated. Of course as Coach Withers like to say, the best part about being 5-0, is the chance to go 6-0. Consider this your official open thread for all pre-game, in-game, and post-game chatter. Go Dukes. Keep rootin!

Guys,
Can anyone tell me why The Washington Post does not cover JMU as an important LOCAL Team especially with a 5-0 Record.
Not ONE word in the Post regarding the win over SMU and not even a paragraph related to the win over Stony Brook last week!!!
Norfolk St and Howard are covered…Everything related to Tech and UVA is covered down to the third string guard’s home town…
Is it the fault of the JMU Sports Communication staff or does The Post just not know where JMU is located or does someone on the staff just not like JMU???
It’s not even conceivable that we’ve peaked at the SMU game, is it? Let’s get in gear here Dukes.
My 12 year old recognized that the quarterback was back as punter on that fake punt. So obvious that was going to be a fake.
Hammy, The ComPost has never covered us, even when Lefty was here.
Awful call on the Towson targeting ejection. And no review. But hard hits are banned nowadays.
Fake punt definitely hurt. And so did letting them drive down and score after JMU’s last TD. Thank God Ankrah made a play and kept it from being worse. Really need to pounce on them after the break and keep Towson from dictating the pace.
The one thing I’ve learned from Withers is that he actually makes halftime adjustments.
I love the up-tempo offense but it doesn’t our defense any favors.
King Tutt!!!
I can’t believe we’re playing like this and over 50 pts again. This JMU team is almost as good as my Madden Franchise. Almost.
It’s sort of amazing, that JMU can look pretty “meh” for much of the game, and still put up half a hundred and win going away.
One of the few smart things the announcers said was that even thought JMU runs up tempo and their drives are quick, they aren’t finesse. They can grind it out if they need to. I think that’s going to be important once the competition gets tougher and it comes to playoff teams. The Richmond and W&M games will be a nice test and luckily one is at home!
@Drake: the best thing Ismail did in the booth all day was breathe — he tried way too hard to be way too cute.
@Harlowe: with no replay @ Towson, made it hard to see what happened. It did look like the defender left his feet to make the hit, but the camera shot wasn’t great.
As usual, Coach Withers and staff made impactful adjustments at halftime; thought the defense missed the bus and didn’t hit the field until Ankrah made the ankle tackle on the Towson QB to hold them to a FG. Two big plays by Hawkins.
Special teams’ performance was worse than the smell of a freshly dead skunk on I-64:
TU school record KR yardage
Blocked punt
Don’t know their numbers (the # 4 looks so similar to #91; I can see how they could be confused)
Badly missed 44 yard FG
Tutt return was awesome, but the stench remains — this is a real area of concern for this team going forward
Penalties — still too many at the most inopportune time; lost a TD today because of one.
Vad continues to do what he we expect from him each week — no turnovers today made a huge difference.
150 for Adbullah and a really nice catch by Taylor on TD #1. Players and plays like that make for quite the spectacle.
We get a shot to move to 7-0 — Duuuuukes!!!
